Shabbat Candlesticks in Judaics with Miss. Samantha

Last week we made Shabbat Candlesticks. The ingredients that we used were very unusual.  I had the children try to figure out what we were making... Some thought Challah while others thought cookies it was funny to watch all the children try to figure it out. The ingredients include 1/2 cup of water, 1/2 cup of salt, 1 and 1/2 cups of flour, one tablespoon of vegetable oil and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch... Now do you see why they thought we were making some sort of food? Measure out all the ingredients and let your children pour them into a large mixing bowl with their hands. Then divide the dough into manageable sizes for your children to work with. Help your child make their dough into a ball, star, heart or any other shape. Allow the dough to dry overnight and then have fun decorating them... Hope you enjoy getting messy!

Vegies Sprouting!!!

When I was outside in our Environmental classroom doing the March of Dimes Mini March on Sunday for Mitzvah Day, I noticed many of our plants are sprouting.  We have blueberries on our bushes and kumquats on our trees.  You can tell the muscadine grapes survived the winter as they are slowly taking over the fence.  Can't wait to see how Miss Samantha's vegetables will grow.  They planted basil today!!!

City Life

Yarok class is enjoying the theme of City life by cutting out black squares for windows and placing them on construction paper any way that they want to.  I asked them what building in the City that they are making and we placed them outside on our bulletin board for everyone to see.  I enjoyed having them show their parents the work when they arrived to school the next morning.  They were so proud of their building.

Kachol Class

It has been a very busy week in the Kachol class. This week we made Matzah people for Passover. All you need is a 1/2 of sheet of Matzah for each child. Put a blob of peanut butter on the Matzah and let the child spread Peanut Butter all over with a plastic knife. Use raisins, marsh-mellow Fluff, and red vines to decorate for eyes, nose, mouth, and hair... Let your child decorate as they please. Then you can eat them! YUMMY!

Got Chocolate?

Got chocolate? There is no better way to eat Matzah then Chocolate covered Matzah! Yesterday in Judaics I had the children make their own chocolate covered Matzah. All you need is Matzah, and semi sweet chocolate chips. Melt the chocolate chips and have the children decorate the matzah how they please... Maybe they want to make swirls with the chocolate or maybe they want to cover the whole Matzah with chocolate. Don't forget to have a glass of milk on hand as you enjoy this delicious treat!
