Adom Room

Today in the one's room we made noise makers for our school's Purim play. We started by taking a paper plate and decorating it with dot paints. Dot paints are easy to hold and can be used to dot or draw lines. One could also use issue paper, markers, crayons, exedra. After our plates are done drying we are going to fold the plate in half decorated side out and place beans inside. To keep bean secure inside we are going to staple the outside around the rim of the plate. Shake well to hear your noise maker. Children can try different fillings other than beans to hear different sounds and identify loud and soft noises.

Kosher chocolate body parts

Yarok class has been learning all about the human body and on Shabbat we always do something special so I told them we are going to have a chocolate party.  The day before Shabbat we melted white chocolate into a brain mold and added red food color into it.  Then we poured white chocolate into teeth molds and let it harden in the fridgerator over night.  On Shabbat during snack time we seperated the chocolate which is Kosher and they got to see the anatomy of the human brain and the teeth as they tasted the chocolate and they loved it.  Any hands on learning experience that the children can eat really creates memories and excitment in our class.

Kachol Blog

Since we are studying Health and Safety Miss. Joy's class had a healthy lunch Tea party. All of the children made the food which included tuna salad, egg salad, cheese, fruit trays and veggie trays. We drank lemonade and hot tea out of tea cups. All the children were able to put the food they wanted to eat on their trays and then they carried it to their table just like they will do in kindergarten.

ABC's & 123's

It is such a blessing to come to work everyday and see all of our children grow right in front of our eyes. At the beginning of this year most of our class could not count to ten or sing the ABC's, we are now half way through the year and most of our children can count to ten in English, Hebrew, and Spanish... It's music to our ears! Ms. Marceline and I have also been working on the letters of the alphabet, It makes our day when a child looks at a ball and says "B for Ball" or "C for Cat." We are looking forward to all of the wonderful things our children will learn before they move on to the two's room!!!

We made Kindness Jars in Judaics

This week in Judaics we are learning about manners, so we made kindness Jars. A kindness jar is a great and easy way to teach your child good manners. All you will need is an empty jar that your child can decorate how he or she wishes. Once you have finished decorating the kindness jar then every time your child shows good manners or is kind to others they get to but a puff ball (or whatever you would like to use to fill the jar up) in the jar. When the jar is full they get a treat/surprise! All the classes really enjoyed making these jars and have been showing wonderful manners!

Storah telling and Kabbalat Shabbat program

This Friday, B'nai Israel is bringing the NYC acting troupe, Storahtelling , to Gainesville. They use music, life-size puppets and acting to bring the torah to life. From 4:30-6pm they will be presenting a musical performance of Noah's Ark designed for our students and all children ages 2-10. After that we will take a short walk to welcome Shabbat and then go to the community room for a family Kabbalat Shabbat program complete with songs, a skit and a story. I cannot tell you how excited I am about this program. I saw Storahtelling at a conference a few years ago and they were awesome.  What a special Shabbat this will be- not only is it a special program but a chance for us to all celebrate Shabbat together. See you Friday!!!

Shalom from the Adom Class

This week Ms. Carol's infant class experienced a few new sensory experiences.  We put our hands in rice on Monday, eggs on  Wednesday and will experience eggshells today.  The children would not touch the eggs (too gooey)?  We were unable to spend much time outside due to the weather, but made the most of it by making tents inside and dancing.

Ms. Peggie's class is making bobble heads as a project and working on masks for Purim.   Major is adjusting nicely to his new school.

Adom Class

Today was a great day in the Adom room. The one’s room anyways enjoys the friendship circle’s visits. Today we used chalk and black paper to trace a hand of the child and member of the friendship circle. We talked about the colored chalk we used, the size difference in hands, and which hand is right and left. One can take her child outside on a sunny day and play with side walk chalk.  This will give your child the opportunity to express herself and you can always compare and contrast objects or trace each other’s bodies.

Computers and The Human Body

The kids are having such a great time in the computer lab. It is amazing to see how much they have progressed in such a short amount of time. While the threes and fours have been going all year I just recently started taking the twos class. It Is so great to see how quickly they are picking everything up. Today we focused on the human body and I showed how a cold attacks the body through the use of "The Magic School Bus." I can't tell you how much the kids love Mrs. Frizzle! In case anybody is interested the episode is called "Inside Ralphie." On Thursday we will continue with the human body and also touch on King Solomon. It's so nice getting to teach computers to such amazing children. I look forward to the upcoming weeks!

Potting soil pudding

Yarok class participated in the digging with dads event by making potting soil pudding along with planting seeds in soil.  We needed gummy worms without geletin because we are a Jewish school so one of our parents went to the health food store and found vegan gummy gators that we improvised for the gummy worms and it worked well.  They were quite tasty too!  All you need for the potting soil pudding is instant pudding, milk, and oreos that you place in zip loc bags for the children to smash up.  Place the ingredients into a flower pot, put an artificial or a candy flower in the middle and serve with a shovel.  The children pertend they are eating real potting soil and they get a big kick out of eating it.  ENJOY!

We are discussing Deeds of Loving Kindness. The children helped to list Deeds of Loving Kindness and we wrote them down. Then we drew ourselves doing a deed of loving kindness in our Journals.

Bird Feeders

What a wonderful week it has been. This week we are celebrating Tu B'Shevat and the children are enjoying learning about all the wonderful things trees bring to us. This week we will be making bird feeders. All you need is a toilet paper roll, peanut butter and bird seed. Spread the peanut butter over the toilet paper roll and then roll it into the bird seed. Once it is covered with bird seed hang it on a tree for all the birds to enjoy. I hope you have fun making this craft with your little ones.

News from the Katom Class for the week of January 30th

This week was packed with new adventures for the infants of the Katom class.  We discovered the texture of flour, pudding and finally sand for our sensory experiences.  The children loved sifting their hands through these textures.  Katelyn, Isaac and Joel visited the playground everyday and on friday, Joel and Katelyn discovered the sandbox.  It was a little warm, so we only spent ten minutes out there.  It has been so wonderful to be outside again.   The children love their daily Bye Bye Buggy rides as well.   We also celebrated the first birthdays of Isaac and Joel in Miss Peggie's room.  This was a fun-filled event was complete with balloons, cupcakes and bubbles.   Katelyn is crawling and Joel and Isaac have taken their first steps and are off and running, keeping Miss Adriana and Miss Carol on their toes.
